Authorities responded to a large fight in Mount Vernon
(MOUNT VERNON)- Mount Vernon Police responded to an apartment complex in the 400 block of N. Laventure after receiving reports of a large fight in the parking lot on Monday, August 5th at 11:55pm. According to a press release from Lieutenant Greg Booth, information from several callers indicated approximately 10 subjects were involved, ranging in age from adults to juveniles. As police units were responding, they received additional reports of a gunshot in the area of the fight.
The release said that on arrival, officers encountered a very chaotic scene with numerous parties physically fighting. Neighboring law enforcement agencies including Skagit County Sheriff’s Office, Burlington Police, Sedro Woolley Police and Washington State Patrol responded to assist in detaining those involved and securing the area.
The release said, several injured subjects were located including an adult male with a puncture wound and an adult female with a head laceration. Both parties received medical treatment. Investigators also collected a spent shell casing, consistent with the report of a gun being fired.
The release said, based on the evidence and witness statements, it appears the altercation involved two neighboring families who reside in the complex. It’s unclear specifically what led to the fight, however Mount Vernon officers had been called to the same area earlier in the day due to a dispute between juveniles from each family.
At this point, no arrests have been made. The investigation is continuing.
