(MARYSVILLE)– One more four-day closure of southbound State Route 529 will allow crews to finish mechanical rehabilitation work on the Steamboat Slough Bridge. The highway will close at 11 p.m. Friday, June 6, at the Ebey Slough Bridge and will reopen at 11 p.m. Monday, June 9, according to a news release from the Washington State Department of Transportation.
People traveling in Marysville throughout the closure should plan for backups at the Interstate 5 and Fourth Street/SR 528 interchange. It is illegal to block intersections, so drivers need to be sure they can clear an intersection before entering. Also, people should consider using the 88th and 116th streets northeast interchanges north of downtown Marysville to avoid the congestion.
Northbound SR 529 will not be affected. People will need to use northbound SR 529 from Everett to reach Smith Island but may leave the island using either direction of the highway.
During the closure, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will perform mechanical repairs to help preserve the southbound Steamboat Slough Bridge. The 98-year-old structure was part of the original highway between Everett and Marysville.
