Mount Vernon Fire Chief Bryan Brice will retire next year
(MOUNT VERNON)- The City of Mount Vernon announces the upcoming retirement of Fire Chief Bryan Brice, who will be stepping down from his position on April 30, 2025, according to a news release from the city.
Chief Brice has been a dedicated and visionary leader for the Mount Vernon Fire Department since August 2016, guiding the department through numerous challenges, and implementing significant improvements in the City’s approach to public safety.
During his tenure, Chief Brice was instrumental in transforming the department’s operational capabilities, including leading the transition to a fire-based EMS system and serving as a unified commander during the COVID-19 pandemic for Skagit County. His efforts have significantly strengthened the department's ability to respond to emergencies and protect the community.
"Serving as the Fire Chief of Mount Vernon has been one of the greatest honors of my professional career," said Chief Brice. "I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together and deeply grateful for the unwavering support of our city’s leadership, firefighters, and staff."
Chief Brice’s leadership was characterized by his forward-thinking approach and his commitment to making decisions that benefit both the community and the fire department. Under his guidance, the department has maintained a high standard of service, ensuring the safety and well-being of Mount Vernon's residents.
Mayor Peter Donovan expressed his gratitude for Chief Brice’s service.

With over 35 years in the fire service, Chief Brice’s career has been marked by a series of distinguished roles, including previous service as the Fire Chief in Oxnard, CA, and as a Division Chief with the Orange County Fire Authority. His extensive experience and commitment to public service have made him a respected figure in the fire service community.
Mayor Donovan indicated that he plans to reveal an administration transition plan in the weeks ahead and said that he is committed to ensuring a smooth transition and continued excellence in service.
