Share your thoughts, set priorities for Skagit County Parks and Recreation
(SKAGIT COUNTY)- Maybe you’re interested in expanding a county park. Or wondering how you can get new programs added to the county’ recreation offerings. How can you get these ideas on Skagit County’s radar?
This spring, the Skagit County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and staff want exactly that kind of input. They’re beginning work on a new, six-year Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Plan, and are inviting you to attend one of a series of meetings to share your thoughts in person.
Meetings are planned around the county, to make it as simple as possible for people to share their ideas:
· Anacortes: Wednesday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m., Anacortes Senior Center Great Room, 1701 22nd Street
· Mount Vernon: Thursday, May 10, at 6:30 p.m., Mount Vernon Senior Center, 1401 Cleveland Street
· Marblemount: Thursday, May 24, at 6:30 p.m., Marblemount Community Hall, 60155 Highway 20
· Sedro-Woolley: Thursday June 7, 6:30 p.m., Sedro-Woolley Senior Center, 715 Pacific Street
"The Comprehensive Plan lays the groundwork for the future of our parks and rec system and outlines our priorities for the next six years,” said Parks and Recreation Director Brian Adams. “We want to make sure we’re funding and prioritizing the right programs and projects – and the only way we can do that is by hearing from the people who use our parks and participate in our recreation programs.”
The plan inventories existing parks and identifies future park need; explores potential park development and/or improvements; and prioritizes strategies to achieve a level of service that fits the needs of county residents. The plan also talks about existing and potential funding sources that will help the department provide quality service and maintain park facilities and recreation services.
