2025 Flood Awareness Week to kick off; public preparedness events scheduled

(SKAGIT COUNTY)- Flood Awareness Week officially kicks off on Monday, October 13th, in Skagit County and will run through Friday, October 17th, 2025. Flooding has been a serious concern to the Skagit County community since the late 1800s, with the threat of extreme flooding generally occurring in Skagit Valley between the months of October and March, according to a news release from the county.

Measures have been taken throughout the years to reduce the risk of flood damage in the valley. As a part of these preventative measures, Skagit County Department of Emergency Management (DEM) and Public Works hold Flood Awareness Week each October to assess and implement ongoing flood preparedness. This week, DEM is offering a free webinar for community members to join and learn about flood preparedness for themselves and their families.
