(CAMP MURRAY, Wash.)– A Disaster Assistance Center will open Thursday, May 28, in Whatcom County to help Washington residents affected by the December storms and flooding. Specialists will assist survivors with FEMA and U.S. Small Business Administration applications and other disaster assistance, according to a news release from FEMA. (SKAGIT COUNTY)- The Marblemount bridge on Cascade River Road will be closed to all traffic overnight, Monday evening through Friday morning, 8 p.m. – 4 a.m., from June 1 – June 19 due to ongoing construction efforts to rehabilitate the aging bridge infrastructure. There will be ongoing work on the bridge during daytime hours as well, but the road will reopen each day and every weekend for normal traffic, according to a news release from county. (BELLINGHAM)– Both lanes of southbound Interstate 5 will move onto a temporary two-lane bypass road through summer 2026 beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, along Chuckanut Creek south of Bellingham. During the traffic shift, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will install a new fish-passable structure beneath the southbound lanes as part of a project correcting 17 barriers near Lake Samish, according to a news release from WSDOT. Beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, both southbound I-5 lanes will shift onto a temporary two-lane bypass south of the existing lanes near Chuckanut Creek (milepost 247). (SKYKOMISH)– US 2 will reduce to one lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Northeast Old Stevens Highway (milepost 50) near Skykomish. Flaggers will alternate traffic through the work zone. Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews will replace sensors in the roadway, according to a news release from WSDOT. (LACEY)– The Washington Department of Ecology issued $3,838,100 in penalties of $1,000 or more from Oct. 1 – Dec. 31, 2025, according to a news release from Ecology. Ecology works with thousands of businesses and individuals to help them comply with state laws. The agency issues penalties when someone doesn’t comply with the laws after Ecology provides technical assistance or warnings, or for particularly serious violations. In some cases, a penalty may be reduced through a court ruling or settlement. The penalty amounts go to the state’s general fund or dedicated accounts that help prevent pollution.
